SQA certifies 13 unemployed youth in Customer Services
By Talaia Mika
APIA, SAMOA – 20 MAY 2022: As the unemployment rate for Samoan youth stands at 16.4 per cent, 13 unemployed young people were certified this week having completed the Samoa Qualifications Authority standards in Customer Services.
The three day training was conducted by Events Marketing and Distribution (EMD) at Talamua House, Togafu’afu’a for 13 unemployed youths who needed the opportunity to upskill and be certified to help when they apply for jobs.
This is the first in a series of four separate trainings over the next four weeks.
Tyra Elisara, Marketing Manager for EMD said the training is an opportunity to upskill the youth on Customer Service so that when they apply for a job, they will have a certificate and the skills to help with their applications.
“The training is delivered by EMD in partnership with SQA and the Samoa National Youth Council and our purpose is to help them have a better understanding of how to deliver customer service like being a receptionist, call respondent and so forth,” he said.
The training is targeting 60 youth participants at the end of four weeks and is free as an incentive for young people to attend.
The EMD initiated training is funded by the SQA and this is a first ever customer service training specifically targeted for young people.
EMD is calling youths who are staying at home and looking for a job to register and join the training programme.
