Ministry of Works gets new Chief Executive Officer

APIA, SAMOA – 06 JUNE 2022: Cabinet has confirmed the appointment of Fui Tupai Mau Simanu as the new Chief Executive Officer for the Ministry of Works, Transport and Infrastructure (MWTI).

He takes over from Magele Hoe Viali whose contract ended in March.

Tupa’i was a Chief Engineer at the Electric Power Corporation since 2010. Before that he was a lecturer at the National University of Samoa.

The 56-year-old told Talamua he is grateful for the opportunity and he looks forward to his regulatory role and responsibilities.

“It’s a regulatory role, and MWTI controls civil aviation activities and air transport operations, all operational activities and transportation associated with marine and shipping in Samoa and so I look forward to doing my best,” he said.

Tupai was educated at Samoa College and went on to receive a Masters in Engineering Management from the University of Technology in Australia.

He is from the villages of Savaia in Lefaga, Falefa, Sagone and Saoluafata.

Two CEOs reappointed
Cabinet has also confirmed the reappointment of Peseta Noumea Simi for another three years as CEO of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, a role she held since 2015.

Also reappointed for another three years is Ulugia Petelo Kavesi as CEO of the Samoa Land Corporation. Ulugia has held the post since 2016.
