BREAKING NEWS: Two MPs resign from the Human Rights Protection Party (HRPP)

HRPP MPs Tuuu Anasii Leota and Ale Vena Ale have tendered their resignations with the Party Leader.

APIA, SAMOA – 03 NOVEMBER 2022: Former Cabinet Minister Tuuu Anasii Leota and Ale Vena Ale have publicly announced their resignation after tendering their resignation in writing with the Party Leader Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi.

Central to their resignations is the Party Leadership. Both MPs said they have lost confidence in Tuilaepa and HRPP following the leaders’ failure to win the 2021 general election and the subsequent by elections.

They also point to Tuilaepa’s failure to admit to his conviction of contempt of court and parliament and should have stepped down to set a good leaders’ example.

They point to the bullying and personal attacks and character assassination and disrespectful language as the norm for Tuilaepa and that they no longer believe in HRPP and its leadership and the direction it is going.

Both MPs have also informed the Speaker of their decisions and said they will become Independent MPs in the House.
