STA and Lalomanu Beach Fales operators implement response measures for tourists

APIA, SAMOA – 15 NOVEMBER 2022: The Samoa Tourism Authority and Beach Fales operators at Lalomanu under the Aleipata Tourism Alliance (ATA), are implementing response measures to combat negative activities practiced by tourists that may tarnish Samoa’s image as a tourist destination.

This is follows social media content posted by a particular male visitor criticising visitors disputing fees to access the beaches in the Aleipata area.

STA today issued a statement for visitors who are already in the country and those who are planning their itineraries as well as the public at large to be aware of these response measures.

“The Authority has extended to the Alliance its support as part of wider collective efforts to rebuild Samoa’s visitor economy,” STA stated.

“STA takes this opportunity to remind visitors to liaise with tourism business owners including custodians of sites and attractions, before undertaking activities and experiences (especially beyond their main place of stay).”

Meanwhile, Aleipata Tourism Alliance will call a meeting of its members to discuss what happened with the goal of collectively rolling out measures, including standard-fees and signage, to help protect Beach Fale operators, ensure visitors are informed and to help protect the image of Beautiful Samoa as a visitor destination.

STA acknowledged the gradual increase in visitor arrivals in alignment with the growth in air connectivity and international marketing efforts by STA and tourism business operators, following the reopening of international borders in August this year.

“These benefits have flowed onto other industries and communities that make up the tourism supply-chain,” STA stated.

“STA recently restarted its international media visit programme with the support of tourism businesses. Through these, valuable exposure via articles and features highlighting the destination have been published and syndicated across multiple channels.”
