The Old City of Jerusalem with the historic and religious elements is of great interest to Samoan Christians who may travel to Israel.

APIA, SAMOA – 04 APRIL 2023: Visa free travel arrangements between Samoa and Israel have been officially approved by Cabinet.

According to Prime Minster Fiame Naomi Mataafa, this arrangement was delayed by a few clarifications that were required by both countries regarding immigration laws and provisions.

Under the approved arrangements, an Israeli travelling to Samoa may stay up to 90 days and Samoans are permitted to stay for up to 60 days of visa free in Israel.

A few Samoans have travelled to Israel on work and training but most as pilgrims following closely the origins of the Christian faith.

Meanwhile, the search for visa free and easier travel approval for the much travelled Samoa/New Zealand connection, remains far from realization.

The Prime Minister told the media today that New Zealand’s Deputy Prime Minister, Carmel Sepuloni (who has Samoan ancestry) is concerned that more Samoans would flock to New Zealand if travel was made easier.

However the point made was that New Zealand and Australia are quick to provide visa access for the seasonal workers they need than approving visas for Samoans travelling over for family activities such as funerals, reunions or even a holiday.
