APIA, SAMOA – 17 APRIL 2023: Code Avengers, a leading provider of online coding and digital technologies education, is continuing to work with local provider BlueWave Wireless (E3 Samoan Trust), working with 10 schools over the coming months, providing professional learning and development for educators across Samoa. The first schools to receive training and resources this week will be Palauli Primary School in Savai’i and Lotofaga Primary School in Upolu.

Code Avengers has partnered with BlueWave Wireless (E3 Samoan Trust), the Asia Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC) and the Pacific Cooperation Foundation (PCF) to create sustainable digital fluency capability in Samoa.

This collaboration, PacifiCode – Digital Fluency Project, focuses on supplying high-quality devices access to online learning platforms, developing teachers’ capabilities through certification programs, aligning with the Samoan curriculum and implementing ICT in classrooms, increasing female participation in ICT education, exposing students to ICT career options and developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Building on previous school “Code Camp” initiatives, Code Avengers has already donated and supplied laptops to the schools this month, with plans to extend the program to 10 further schools in the months to come.

“We are thrilled to partner with BlueWave Wireless (E3 Samoan Trust), APNIC Foundation and Pacific Cooperation Foundation to bring digital fluency education to children across Samoa,” said Ray Allen, Code Avengers VP APAC region.

“Our partnership with local provider BlueWave Wireless (E3 Samoan Trust) will ensure that teachers receive the professional learning and development they need to effectively deliver this education to their students. We are committed to building lasting digital fluency capability in Samoa and enabling children to access the skills they need to thrive in the digital age.”

Under the PacifiCode initiative, teachers will strive to become Code Avengers certified, and all schools will have access to the Code Avengers online learning platform for three years. Once certified, schools will establish an after-school ICT club aimed at 11 – 14 year olds, with equal representation by female students, to foster an interest in ICT and enhance their future opportunities in the digital world by exposure to ICT career options.

The partnership between Code Avengers, APNIC, and PCF will provide professional learning and development for teachers and access to digital technologies education for children, ensuring that the next generation of Samoans will be equipped with the necessary skills to thrive in the digital age.

Ray Allen and team arrived on Saturday and were welcomed in an Ava ceremony at Satapuala attended by the constituency’s MP who is also the Minister of Tourism, Toeolesulusulu Cedric Schuster. Satapuala Primary is one of the schools included in the digital fluency capability project.
