N.Z. Minister of Foreign Affairs visits NUS Health Science programme

Apia, Samoa – 20th April, 2023: New Zealand’s Minister of Foreign Affairs – Honourable Nanaia Mahuta – and her delegation yesterday visited the National University of Samoa (NUS) to sight some of the facilities that will be used in the delivery of the Bachelor of Health Science programme, which is funded by the Government of New Zealand.

The Bachelor of Health Science (BHSc) programme aims to address a critical staff shortage in Allied Health professionals in Samoa’s Health Sector.The National University of Samoa together with the Ministry of Health are collaborating in this important Human Resource development project for Samoa. The Bachelor of Health Science programme is set to be launched in February 2024.

During her visit, the Hon. Nanaia Mahuta was given a brief tour of the Science Labs where the BHSc practicals and classes will be held.

The NUS Vice Chancellor – Associate Professor Tuifuisa’a Patila Amosa welcomed the Hon. Nanai Mahuta and her delegation before a brief presentation on the progress of the BHSc programme to date. Hon. Nanaia Mahuta then gave her brief remarks and exchanged gifts with our NUS Vice Chancellor to mark her visit to the University.

“The National University of Samoa is grateful to the Hon. Nanaia Mahuta for visiting the National University of Samoa for the first time,” said the NUS Vice Chancellor – Associate Professor Tuifuisa’a.

“The visit while brief, is both significant as it reflects the NZ Government’s commitment to Samoa’s Health sector priority needs and symbolic in that it strengthens its Treaty of Friendship relations with Samoa at all levels of government.”
