Ambassador of Romania to Samoa presents Letter of Credence
Apia, Samoa – 25 October 2023: His Excellency Radu Gabriel Safta presented his Letter of Credence to the Member of the Council of Deputies, Afioga Le Mamea Tuiletufuga Ropati Mualia this morning at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, accrediting him as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to Samoa with residence in Canberra.
Samoa and Romania have enjoyed cordial relations since the establishment of diplomatic relations in March 2006. Samoa continues to benefit from the assistance through the European Union Development Fund supporting regional development assistance programs channeled through the Pacific Islands Forum. The two countries have worked collaboratively at the United Nations to advance our common goals for the prosperity of our countries and peoples.
H.E Safta reiterated the importance of utilising the available avenues for enhancing cooperation such as our membership in the Pacific Island Forum where the EU is a dialogue partner and at the ACP-EU partnership and the up-coming Samoa Agreement signing in Apia next month.
Afioga Le Mamea Ropati expressed his confidence in the appointment of HE Safta as Ambassador of Romania to Samoa which will further strengthen our bilateral relations.
BIODATA: HE Radu Gabriel Safta is a career diplomat who held various senior positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania. HE Safta held diplomatic rankings of First Secretary, Counsellor, Minister-Counsellor and Minister Plenipotentiary in various Romanian missions.
He was Consul General of Romania in Toronto, Canada as well as in Istanbul, Turkey. He was Romania’s Representative to the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organisation.
He was also posted as Ambassador of Romania in Pretoria, South Africa and a non-resident Ambassador to Namibia, Botswana, Mozambique and Lesotho. HE Safta is currently the Ambassador of Romania to Australia with cross accreditation to Samoa.
He holds a PhD in International Relations and European Studies from the Babeş Bolyai University in Romania.
