Cabinet Declares Dengue Fever Outbreak Awareness Campaign

Apia, SAMOA – 25 April 2024: Cabinet has declared a half day holiday tomorrow, Friday 26 April as part of the national clean up campaign against the current dengue fever outbreak infecting over 200 people.

The half day comes into effect at 1.00pm Friday.

Cabinet has directed all Government Ministries and Corporations to support the national clean-up campaign led by the Ministry of Health to minimize the spread of dengue fever.

The Public Service Commission has informed all Ministries and Corporations that they are required to participate in this national program through the clean-up of all office facilities and surroundings.

PSC have also noted arrangements to be made for any urgent and essential services that may be required during the program which is subject to the discretion of the Chief Executive Officer.

Last Friday, the Director General of Health, Aiono Dr Alec Ekeroma declared the dengue fever outbreak after confirming 216 cases,

The number have since increased but the Ministry of Health has yet to give an update of the exact numbers so far.
