Apia, SAMOA – 30 April 2024: The Ministry of Health is continuing its fumigation program of hospitals, schools and the affected areas with 250 dengue fever cases recorded in the north west of Upolu and Apia urban areas.

The latest situational report from the Ministry of Health confirmed 34 new dengue fever cases since the national dengue outbreak was declared two weeks ago.

According to the health report, the most vulnerable are children under 10 years of age and over 60 years old.

Last Friday, the Government declared a public clean-up day for all Government ministries and corporations.

There had been wide support for the communities affected such as the Apia aumaga leading the clean-up day at the Apia waterfront and the black sand beach.

The Ministry of Health continues to offer advice for protection such as:

  • Keeping a clean environment;
  • Remove all stagnant water sources around the house to avoid breeding sites for mosquitos;
  • Wearing appropriate clothes to minimize mosquito bites;
  • If affected, watch out for symptoms, and seek medical assistance.
