Apia, Samoa – 05 August 2024 – Counsel Fuimaono Josephine Sapolu is not pursuing a bail application for her client Papalii Sia Figiel as there is a possibility that she would change her plea to one of the charges.

She did not disclose which charge when she informed the court of her client’s possible change of plea.

Papalii has already pleaded not guilty to 6 charges which include murder, manslaughter, grievous bodily harm, assault, armed with a dangerous weapon and actual bodily harm, and the hearing is scheduled for March 2025.

Prosecution has opposed the bail application and the matter is adjourned to 19 August for Prosecution to consider the possible changes in the defendant’s stance.

Figiel is accused for the death of American Samoa academic, Dr. Caroline Sinavaiana Gabbard last May.
