Apia, Samoa – 20 August 2024 – Prominent Samoan writer and poet Papalii Sia Figiel has applied for bail and Justice Fepulea’i Amperosa Roma has set 9 September to hear the application.

Last week, Papali’i’s counsel did not pursue the bail application due to the possibility that the accused may vacate her not guilty plea to one charge; however, the accused’s change of mind resulted in the application yesterday.

The accused is facing five charges that include murder, manslaughter, assault, grievous bodily harm and actual assault causing injuries.

The hearing is set for March 2025 and prosecution is opposing bail.

The deceased is an academic and prominent writer and poet from American Samoa.
