Four Samoans awarded Chevening Scholarships

The British High Commissioner to Samoa, His Excellency Gareth Hoar with the four Samoan Chevening scholars.

Apia, Samoa – 12 September 2024 – The British High Commission Apia today hosted a send-off brunch for four (4) selected Samoa Chevening Scholars 2024-2025 to officially congratulate and wishing them all the best with their studying journey.

Chevening Scholarships are awarded to individuals from diverse backgrounds who can demonstrate the commitment and skills needed to become future leaders.

The scholarship offers full financial support for scholars to pursue any eligible master’s degree at over 150 UK universities, along with access to a wide range of exclusive academic, professional, and cultural experiences.

This year, the prestigious Chevening Scholarship scheme is also celebrating 40 years of success.

Speaking at the 2024 to 2025 pre-departure briefing for the 4 selected Samoa Chevening Scholars, British High Commissioner to Samoa, His Excellency Gareth Hoar said:

“A Chevening Scholarship can be the ideal option for you if you have a strong desire to bring about positive change on a local and global level, if you aspire to be the best at what you do, and if you have the creativity to uplift and assist others. We value enthusiasm, open-mindedness, curiosity, compassion, a clear future vision, and the capacity to reach your objectives as we look to help develop the next generation of Samoan leaders.”

The 4 scholars are:

1) Saouila Melissa Tolovaa – Master of Science in Cancer and Molecular Pathology and Genomics at Queen Mary University of London

2) Olioliilealiieleaunoa Faletoese – Master of Science in Global Development at University of Manchester

3) Benaiah Gregory Une – Master of Science in Environmental Futures with Climate Change at University of Essex

4) Afulilo Maataua Tapualii Leao Tuitama – Master of Science in Public Policy at University of Strathclyde.

The scholars will leave for the UK this month.
