SUNGO commence Good Governance Training for two Districts Councils

Apia, Samoa – 19 November 2024 – The Samoa Umbrella for Non-Governmental Organizations (SUNGO) is proud to announce the commencement of a comprehensive three-day training program on Good Governance, specifically tailored for the District Councils of Vaimauga #1 and Vaimauga #2, as well as their office bearers.

The District Councils are in charge of the implementation and operation of the Governments $1m Tala per annum development projects aimed at addressing the social and economic needs of the villages.

The training is delivered by SUNGO’s Community Trainers, who bring a wealth of knowledge and practical experience to the program. The goal of this training is to equip participants with the essential skills and knowledge required to enhance governance practices within their respective communities.

The Training objectives include promoting transparency, accountability, and ethical leadership within district councils, providing practical tools and strategies for effective governance, strengthening the capacity of council members and office bearers in decision -making processes, and to foster collaboration and community engagement for sustainable development.

The Program Highlights contain interactive workshops and sessions on governance principles, case studies and real-life examples to illustrate best practices, Group discussions and activities to encourage peer learning and networking, and practical exercises and role-playing scenarios to apply governance concepts.

SUNGO’s commitment to empowering communities through education and capacity building is at the heart of this initiative. By focusing on good governance, we aim to create a ripple effect that will lead to more resilient, transparent and accountable local governance structures.

Participants have the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions, share experiences, and develop actionable plans to implement in their districts. The training program also provides a platform for building relationships and fostering a supportive network among district council members and office bearers.
