Two Samoan lawyers admitted to the New Zealand Bar

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry of Justice, Papali’i John Taimalelagi Afele and Raewyn Laumatafiafuia Imelda Madeline Fong after they were admitted to the New Zealand bar.

Apia, Samoa – 06 December 2024 – The Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry of Justice, Papali’i John Taimalelagi Afele is one of the two Samoan lawyers who were admitted to the New Zealand bar this week.

Papali’i took up law at the Auckland University after he migrated when he was terminated as CEO under controversial circumstances in 2016. He was reappointed in December 2022.

The Minister of Justice, Matamua Vasati Pulufaga attended the ceremony at the New Zealand High Court in Auckland.

Also admitted was Raewyn Laumatafiafuia Imelda Madeline Fong who also graduated from Auckland University in May this year.

Fong was admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand as determined by the Honourable Justice Recroft on 29 November 2024.
