FFS Unveils Multi-million Dollar Apia Park Complex
Apia, Samoa – 11 December 2024 – In a major leap for sports in Samoa, the Football Federation of Samoa (FFS) has inaugurated a $12 million tala Apia Park Complex, making it the largest sporting project ever undertaken by any sports body in Samoa.
Built over four years, the state-of-the-art complex stands as a testament to Samoa’s commitment to nurturing athletic talent and providing world-class facilities.
Nestled besides the well-known Manu Samoa rugby field at Apia Park, the complex boasts a plethora of features designed to elevate the sporting experience for athletes and fans alike. Among its highlights is a full-size indoor football court that can also accommodate various events and activities.
The complex also features a convertible arena capable of hosting over 2,000 people and can be a hub for sporting events, community gatherings and corporate functions. The sprawling complex includes two full-size football fields, with the potential for a third, complemented by three mini football pitches specifically designed for youth training.
These football fields meet international standards, positioning Samoa as a competitive venue for international football matches. Beyond football, the facility is versatile enough to host events across a range of sports.
At the grand opening, the Acting Minister of Sports and Recreation, Lautimuia Uelese Afoa Vaai, expressed his pride in this significant achievement, highlighting FIFA’s unwavering support for the development of football in Samoa.
“This development not only allows Samoa to continue hosting football events in the region but also offers our youth essential opportunities to hone their skills in a world-class environment,” he stated.
Lautimuia emphasized the government’s commitment to improving the quality of life for all Samoans through enhanced sports infrastructure, a vision aligned with the ongoing development efforts seen at the Tuanaimato Sports Complex. He acknowledged FIFA’s vital role in supporting the growth of football in Samoa and expressed hope for continued collaboration moving forward.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was performed by the Deputy Prime Minister Tuala Tevaga Iosefo Ponifasio and FIFA’s Vice President, Lambert Maltock and marked a new era for sports in Samoa.
As the President of FFS, Papalii Leslie Petaia looked on, the event symbolized not just the opening of a complex, but the opening of doors for future generations of athletes.
