Apia, Samoa – 06 January 2025 – Manu Samoa’s Head Coach, Mase Mahonri Schwalger has resigned.

Lakapi Samoa announced today that the Board has accepted Schwalger’s resignation effective immediately.

The former Manu Samoa captain is facing criminal sex related charges and the case against him is scheduled to be heard in court in May this year.

Lakapi Samoa acknowledged Mase’s contribution as a player, captain and coach, giving everything to the country through the Manu Samoa, and his contributions to the team and the Samoa rugby community.

“His leadership has been a key part of our journey, and we wish him all the best,” said the Lakapi Samoa statement.

As Head Coach, Manu Samoa achieved significant milestones including strong performances on the international stage, beginning with defeating Tier 1 Nation, Italy at home and a respectable performance in the Pacific Nations Cup last year.

“Lakapi Samoa will begin the search for a new head coach and remains committed to ensuring that Manu Samoa continues to grow and succeed at the highest levels of international rugby,” said the Lakapi Samoa statement.
