SVSG to Celebrate 20 Years of Dedication to Saving Lives in Samoa

Apia, 28 January 2025 – The Samoa Victim Support Group (SVSG) is launching a year-long celebration marking its 20th anniversary. Beginning in February and continuing through December 2025, SVSG will host a series of events to commemorate two decades of unwavering commitment to protecting and empowering victims of violence and abuse in Samoa.

Since its founding in 2005, SVSG has been at the forefront of advocating for and providing essential services to those impacted by violence, particularly women and children. With a vision of a safer and more just society, SVSG has partnered with local and international organizations to deliver life-changing support, protection and safe shelter to those in need.

The year-long Inclusive celebration will include:

  • Competitions (Poster /Poem and Speech) for children, young people and women highlighting the critical work of SVSG in preventing and addressing violence.
  • Parades and Yellow ribbon outreach activities to impact all communities in the fight against GBV and empower victims to reintegrate hope as signifying by the colour yellow.
  • Forum to appreciate partners, volunteers and supporters who have helped make SVSG’s work possible.
  • Markets for the Nofotane women and their husbands to empower more Nofotane women on economic development in families and communities.
  • Amazing Race to invite interested teams of players in Samoa to join the fun celebration of SVSG’s 20 anniversary.
  • Fundraising events aimed at supporting sustaining and expanding SVSG’s vital services to the most vulnerable population and individuals in Samoa.

SVSG President, Siliniu. Lina Chang is deeply grateful for the support of the SVSG partners and the trust of the local and international communities over the past two decades. Siliniu alludes that everyone is welcome to join SVSG in this milestone, inviting all past and current partners, community members, volunteers and supporters to come and be part of this long year celebration. According to Siliniu, SVSG would not have come this far if it had not for the loving support of these good people.
