New Czech Republic’s Envoy presents Credentials
Apia, Samoa – 06 May 2025 – The Czech Republic’s new Ambassador to Samoa, Ms. Jana Tyrer presented her Letters of Credence to the Head of State, Afioga Tuimaleali’ifano Va’aletoa Sualauvi II, at a Credentials Ceremony at the Official Residence of the Head of State at Vailele this morning.
She is accredited to Samoa with residence in Canberra, Australia.
Samoa and Czechia established diplomatic ties on 12 December 1995 and have maintained cordial relations with continued cooperation through the United Nations and other multilateral platforms on shared priorities including peace and security, sovereignty, human rights, and the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.
Ambassador Tyrer reaffirmed Czechia’s commitment to these common goals and expressed her interest in deepening bilateral cooperation through working closely with the Government of Samoa to explore opportunities that will bring mutual benefit to both countries.
Afioga Tuimaleali’ifano Va’aletoa Sualauvi II welcomed Ambassador Tyrer and acknowledged the growing partnership between Samoa and Czechia and expressed appreciation for the ongoing cooperation supported through regional and multilateral mechanisms, particularly under the European Union.
The Head of State conveyed his confidence in the Ambassador’s appointment that will further strengthen existing cooperation.
Ambassador Tyrer holds a Master’s Degree in English and German Philology from Palacky University in Olomouc (1990–1996), and studied at Unitobler in Bern, Switzerland (1993–1994). She joined the Czech diplomatic service in 2001 after completing training at the Diplomatic Academy.
She served in various roles within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2002 to 2010, including the Offices of the Director General for Bilateral Relations, Legal and Consular Affairs, and European Affairs.
She was posted to the Czech Embassy in Bratislava (2004–2009) and later in London as First Secretary in the Political Section (2012–2016).
From 2016 to 2020, she held leadership roles within the EU Policies Department, and since 2020, she has served as Junior Deputy Minister and Director General for European Affairs. H.E Ms Jana Tyrer speaks Czech, English, German, Russian, French and Spanish.
