Head of State’s writ confirms 29 August election date

Apia, Samoa – 10 June 2025 – The Head of State has declared the official dates of the early elections with Pre-polling on 27 August and general voting on 29 August according to the official writ issued today.
Samoa is going to the polls early following the dissolution of parliament on 3 June, capping off months of political uncertainty as a minority government led the country since January this year.
Meanwhile, the office of the Electoral Commissioner is rushing to ensure a representative election as less than 60% of the 117, 225 eligible voters have so far been registered.
The Electoral Commissioner and his team have cleaned up the electoral roll, removing 10,758 voters who had died or were otherwise ineligible from the 2021 rolls that originally had 127,983 names.
Extra venues have been opened this week for voters’ easy access to register especially for the urban constituencies of Vaimauga, Faleata and Sagaga.
