Apia, Samoa – 11 June 2025 – The Police key witness, Marie Tusi, in the ongoing trial related to the unresolved hit and run case at Vaitele on 21 April 2021, has been moved from police protection after admitting in court this evening that she had been pressured by police.

Under cross examination by defense lawyer Kathryn Dalziel, Marie corroborated Samuelu Sua’s statement that she was with him at the location on the night of the hit and run accident on 21 April 2021.

However, after a five-minute break, she came back and denied everything she said earlier.

That’s when Dalziel started asking where she went during the break or if she spoke to the police and she said no.

“We all see your struggle because police have put pressure on you,” said Dalziel

“No” said Marie.

“The reason why you’re struggling because of what police want you to say against the truth?”

“Yes” Marie responded.

The Judge then called for a recess and explained that the court will seek the Attorney Generals advice regarding an arrangement for a new location for the witness after the outcome of this evening proceedings.

The court went two hours overtime as defense earlier requested the court for the witness to complete her testimony for fears that she may change her testimony overnight.

The judge and lawyers only left court about 7.30 this evening following behind the vehicle carrying the witness to check the new place she has been moved for the night as the case enters the third week of a five-week trial.
