Apia, SAMOA – 17 June 2026 – In a press statement, the Government of Samoa said it is kept updated on developments concerning two Samoan nationals who are currently held in custody in Vietnam in relation to an ongoing murder investigation.

Since becoming aware of this matter, the Government has taken active steps through its international partners and diplomatic channels to facilitate contact and cooperation between the relevant authorities in Samoa and their counterparts in Vietnam.

These efforts are aimed at supporting mutual cooperation in investigations being undertaken in both countries and ensuring that the appropriate information-sharing processes are available through official channels.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade has sought the assistance of its relevant diplomatic partners with representation in Vietnam to undertake its consular and diplomatic responsibilities in particular, seeking information on the welfare of the two Samoan nationals and facilitating communication where possible.

The Government acknowledges the public interest in this matter. However, as investigations remain ongoing and official engagement with Vietnamese authorities is continuing, it would be inappropriate to comment further on the case.

The Government respectfully asks the public and media organisations to allow the relevant authorities in both countries to carry out their work without interference or speculation that might prejudice ongoing investigations and future legal proceedings.

The Government remains committed to ensuring that further updates are provided to the public should it become appropriate to do so.
