Police hold 49-year-old man for threatening to kill the PM

Apia, SAMOA – 18 August 2026 – A 49-year-old man is in police custody and charged for threatening to kill the Prime Minister, Laaulialemalietoa Leuatea Polataivao Fosi Schmidt.

He is identified as Aumaga Aloalii of Aua, American Samoa and Saleapaga villages and the threat was made in a social media post using offensive language.

Police arrested the man at Falelauniu in the weekend and is held in police custody until he appears in court in early September.
