85 Election Candidates registered, more expected

Apia, Samoa – 09 July 2025: The Office of the Electoral Commissioner (OEC) has registered 85 candidates in the first two days of registrations for the 29 August general election.

Of the  85 registered, 9 are women and more candidates are expected to register before closing on Saturday this week.

More than half of the candidates registered so far, are FAST Party candidates with 54 officially registered having satisfied all required criteria.

Party Leader Laaulialemalietoa Leuatea Polataivao said that leaves seven more constituencies for the party to register candidates.

Registration for candidates opened yesterday and will close on Saturday.

There are 7 registered political parties that include the:
* Human Rights Protection Party (HRPP)
* Faatuatua i le Atua Samoa ua Tasi (FAST)
* Samoa National Democratic Party (SNDP)
* Samoa Uniting party (SUP)
* Samoa Labour Party (SLP)
* Tumua ma Pule Republican Reform Party (TPRRP)
* Constitutional Democracy Republican Party (CDRP)
