Apia, Samoa – 10 October 2025 – Cabinet’s decision this week to end the Police Commissioner Auapaau Logoitino Filipo’s contract extension, was based on the Public Service Commission (PSC) report to restart the advertisement process to invite more interested candidates.

In line with the PSC recommendation, the initial recruitment process now concluded and the process restarted to ensure transparency and open competition.

This has brought Auapaau’s contract extension to a natural end.

Auapaau’s contract had already expired. It was then extended by the last Caretaker Cabinet until the recruitment process for a new Police Commissioner was completed by PSC.

In the interim, Cabinet has appointed Leiataua Samuelu Afamasaga who is currently in charge of the prisons services as Acting Police Commissioner.

Today is Auapa’au’s last day in office.

The Cabinet decision calls for PSC to advertise the position widely for a period of four weeks both locally and overseas.

The  outgoing Police Commissioner full entitlements under his employment contract.
