Parliament investigates which MP swore in Parliament
Apia, Samoa – 23 October 2025 – The Speaker has announced that parliament is investigating an incident where a Member of Parliament allegedly swore while the Deputy Prime Minister , Toelupe Moaiautele Poumulinuku Onesemo was speaking.
The incident happened when parliament reconvened for this afternoon’s session and was picked up by viewers and listeners who raised the issue on social media and the need to identify the culprit and undergo necessary disciplinary measures.
When parliament returned after the afternoon tea break, Speaker Auapaau Mulipola Aloitafua told Parliament that the incident will be investigated, and the culprit will be dealt with accordingly under the privileges of parliament.
He also expressed his grave disappointment over the incident and advised Members of the House to maintain a respectable tenor as with the dignity of the House and as leaders of the country the people look up.
According to viewers and listeners who picked up the incident, a member used a swear word in Samoan that was picked up by a live microphone while the Deputy Prime Minister was speaking.
