Apia. Samoa – 27 October 2025: The Australian based Samoan hosts of the Maota o Viiga o Samoa facebook based talks social media program were arrested by police earlier today and charged under Section 219 of the Samoa Crimes Act 2013.

Acting Police Commissioner, Leiataua Afamasaga Samuelu confirmed that the male host known by the name of Toleafoa was arrested at the Faleolo Airport as he was trying to leave the country. His wife and co-host of the program was arrested at their home at Vaitele.

Leiataua said both are charged with “Harassment utilising means of electronic communications” which criminalises using electronic means to harass, intimidate, coerce or cause emotional distress.

He said the offence carries a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment.

Leiataua did not disclose who filed the complaint against the couple who have been held by police until a court registrar releases them and set the conditions for release until they appear in court.
