6 Districts in Savaii Launch SAPATEA Sports Hub for Youth & Community Development
23 February 2026 – A landmark national initiative designed to strengthen youth development, expand equitable access to sporting opportunities, and support long-term social and economic wellbeing across Samoa was launch by the Prime Minister at the Sala’ilua, Savaii last Saturday.
The SAPATEA Sports Hub is a collaboration and community-based initiative between 6 districts in Savai’i – including Palauli 1, Palauli 2, Palauli 3, Salega 1, Salega 2 and Satupaitea.
It is envisioned as a regional centre for youth development and talent identification, providing structured, culturally grounded, and accessible facilities to nurture discipline, leadership, resilience, and service among young people.
The initiative responds directly to long‑standing gaps in sporting infrastructure particularly for youth in Savai’i where opportunities have historically been fewer than in urban Upolu.
Beyond sport, the facility is expected to play a key role in promoting social cohesion, community wellbeing, and national resilience. Sport helps reduce social challenges, encourages healthy lifestyles, and creates positive pathways for young people to thrive.

The Prime Minister with the Chair of the SAPATEA Sports Hub, Mulipola Anarosa Ale Molioo and MPs of the six districts behind the initiative.
The Hub will also stimulate local economic activity, create employment, and position Savai’i as a venue for regional sporting events, training camps, and future partnerships.
In launching the project, the Prime Minister reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to inclusive development, ensuring that all children—regardless of where they are born—have access to equal opportunities to reach their full potential.
“This Hub represents more than an infrastructure investment; it is an investment in our people. It will uplift communities, empower youth, and strengthen the spirit of unity,” stated SAPATEA Sports Hub Chair, Hon. Mulipola Anarosa Ale Molioo.
The name of the SAPATEA Sports Hub, is derived from the names of the 3 districts of Palauli, Salega and Satupaitea, covered in the project and is located at the Palauli Sisifo College, Sala’ilua, Savai’i.
A SAPATEA Sports Consultant from Broncos Club, Australia is currently in Savaii for whole week. With Samoan family and cultural links to Satupaitea, the Consultant is conducting a six-month program for the schools in the 6 districts under the Sports Hub Initiative.
