Samoa Dominates the Oceania Wrestling Championships

Apia, SAMOA – 24 March 2026: The Samoa Wrestling Team dominated the Oceania Wrestling Championships 2026 hosted in Apia last week.

Over the course of the tournament, the Team Samoa won 10 gold medals, 10 silvers, and 14 bronzes, cementing their status as a dominant force in the region.

The competition was fierce, but Samoa’s wrestlers rose to the occasion, securing a remarkable medal tally.

Day 1 saw Samoa excel in both Greco-Roman and women’s wrestling categories, claiming five golds, five silvers, and five bronzes.

The momentum carried into Day 2, where the freestyle wrestlers added three golds, four silvers, and four bronzes to the nation’s medal count.

The final day was highlighted by a spirited display in beach wrestling, earning Samoa two golds, a silver, and five bronze medals.

Held across multiple venues at Tuanaimato Sports complex to the Maninoa sandy beaches, the Samoan wrestlers demonstrated exceptional skill and determination throughout the three-day event.

The Samoa Wrestling Federation commends President Jerry Wallwork for his visionary leadership and dedicated guidance, which played a crucial role in the team’s outstanding success.

The Federation also extended gratitude to the Government of Samoa and the Samoa Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (SASNOC) for their continued support of key factors in enabling the team to compete at their best.

As the dust settled, Samoa’s performance at the Oceania Championships not only demonstrated their growing wrestling lineage but also set a solid foundation for future international sporting endeavours.
