Apia, SAMOA – 13 May 2026 – Samoa has taken a significant step forward in its digital transformation journey with the official launch of Samoa Payments last Tuesday.

This is a locally developed platform that makes it easier for businesses to accept online credit card payments, simplifying, securing, and modernising transactions for businesses and consumers across the country.

Designed with local businesses in mind, Samoa Payments removes many of the traditional barriers to accepting online payments, offering a simple and accessible way for merchants and organisations to transact digitally and reach customers beyond physical locations.

The launch event brought together key stakeholders from the private sector, technology community, faith leaders, and business partners, reflecting strong national support for solutions that promote financial inclusion and economic growth.

Speaking at the launch, representatives of Samoa Payments highlighted the platform’s mission to empower local businesses – particularly small and medium enterprises – by giving them the ability to accept card payments, in many cases for the first time, through reliable and user-friendly digital tools.

“There is perhaps no more empowering tool on the market today for any business or organisation in Samoa to maximize their customer reach and grow their business to unprecedented heights.” said Samoa Payments Managing Director Benjamin Harding.

This venture is supported by the Australian Government-funded Market Development Facility, whose funding and strategic backing played a key role in bringing the platform to a wider audience. Their investment reflects confidence in locally driven innovation and the long-term potential of digital financial infrastructure in Samoa.

During the launch, testimonials from early adopters showcased the real-world impact of the platform, highlighting improved payment processes, enhanced customer experience, and greater operational efficiency.

Samoa Payments aligns with national and regional efforts to strengthen digital infrastructure, promote financial inclusion, and create new opportunities for businesses to participate in the digital economy.

The platform is now open for onboarding, with ongoing support, training, and system enhancements planned to meet the evolving needs of users, including upcoming integrations with popular e-commerce platforms.
