Apia, SAMOA – 23 June 2026 – Aquila Peleseuma, an 11-year-old from Wellington with Samoan roots, has been offered a chance to develop his skills in France after signing with Paris FC, a club competing in the top tier of French football.

Aquila is the youngest of three siblings.

He first discovered his love for football while playing with friends near his family’s home in Rouen, France.

His talent was noticed by the father of one of his friends, who encouraged Aquila’s parents to get him involved in a local football club.

That decision has now opened the door to a promising sporting future in Europe.

Aquila’s father, Opetera Peleseuma, moved to France in 2017 to pursue rugby opportunities.

He admits that football was never something the family expected their son to love.

“We didn’t actually know he was playing soccer,” Opetera told RNZ Pacific.

“His best friend’s dad came knocking on our door and asked if Aquila was already playing for a club,” he added.

After watching Aquila play, the family friend saw his talent and encouraged the family to get him involved in organized football.

Now, Aquila will begin progressing through Paris FC’s development system, with plans to join the club’s academy in the future.

The club will also support his education and help him develop both on and off the field.

Despite his young age, Aquila understands how important this opportunity is.

“I feel happy about it, and it means something great to me,” Aquilla said.

“I’m proud because I don’t know any other Samoan or Pasifika kid playing football in the same position,” Aquilla added.

Aquila hopes his journey inspires other young Pacific kids.

The Peleseuma family want Aquila to chase his dreams and reach his full potential in football.

While the road ahead may be tough, they are committed to supporting him every step of the way.

For now, Aquila’s dream of playing professional football is already beginning to take shape in France.
