Apia, SAMOA – 01 July 2026 – The Ministry of Finance has announced a drop in diesel and kerosene prices per litre effective 01 July 2026 as petrol increases by 1.7 sene per litre, rising from $3.99 to $4.00.

Diesel price decreased by 82.3 sene per litre, dropping from $5.31 in June to $4.48 per litre for July.

Kerosene prices also fall by 100.1 sene; dropping from $5.02 to $4.02 per litre.

The Ministry of Finance says these changes reflect recent market developments and are inclusive of Value-Added Goods and Services Tax (VAGST).

The retail prices for July are based on cargo loaded in May and delivered to Samoa in June 2026.

The reductions in diesel and jet/kerosene prices come after traders and consumers paid a substantial premium for these products in April.

Petrol prices, however, did not include these premiums and have remained steady since April.

The Ministry notes that the recent drop in diesel and kerosene prices reflects the removal of these premiums.

The prices for petrol, which did not include the premiums, stayed stable.

According to the Ministry the Memorandum of Understanding signed on 18 June between the United States and Iran outlines conditions to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

The agreement calls for an immediate end to hostilities, including in Lebanon, and sets a 60-day negotiation period for the two countries to reach a final peace agreement.

The global crude oil and refined product markets are expected to continue experiencing volatility in the coming months.

The government remains actively engaged with oil supplier ExxonMobil.

Additional cargoes are scheduled to arrive this week and again in mid-August to help meet Samoa’s energy needs.

Meanwhile, taxi fares have been approved to increase by 30% due to the increase in petroleum prices.
