Three police employees terminated after positive drug tests

Apia, SAMOA – 8 September 2026: Acting Police Commissioner Leiataua Samuelu Afamasaga has confirmed the termination of three employees of the Ministry of Police after testing positive to illegal drugs.

The three terminated employees include 2 Correctional Officers at Tanumalala Prison and 1 civilian.

The civilian was tested twice at the Scientific Research Organisation Samoa (SROS) and tested positive to the use of marijuana and methamphetamine while the other two tested positive to consumption of marijuana.

All employees were suspended prior to the final decision. Leiataua emphasized the Police will not tolerate the involvement of any officers or employees with illegal drugs.

The Ministry is currently spearheading the year long public awareness anti-drugs campaign with the theme: Say No to Illegal Drugs, Say Yes to Hope.
