APIA, SAMOA – 25 APRIL 2023: The villagers of Alamagoto in the Vaimauga 4 district have received 135 water tanks from the $1 million District Development Project.

The first lot of 78 water tanks were handed over by the district Member of Parliament Faualo Harry Schuster in a brief ceremony last Saturday with 57 water tanks expected this week.

Faualo acknowledged the villages’ stance in working together to build resilient responses to natural disasters and especially in securing water supplies.

The Village Council Secretary, Masuisuialemalietoa Alofa said one of the challenges faced by most families living further inland and on higher grounds is the weak supply pressure into their homes.

“But with these water tanks, it will assist these families in time of need,” said Masuisui.

There are 135 households in Alamagoto and Masuisui said the idea was for every family to get a water tank.

“That is why the committee opted to get 500 litre water tanks rather than the 1000 litre ones so no family is left behind,” he said,

Alamagoto village makes up 9 villages in the Vaimauga 4 district and from the $94,000 they received under Phase One of the $1m project, they spent $81,000 to buy water tanks.

The village council is looking at another project to be funded under the last portion of the $1m project to further develop the well-being of the village families.

Alamagoto is just on the outskirts of Apia town and face water supply problems just as one of the village in district, Aai o Fiti also opted to by water tanks that were delivered two weeks ago, due to the ongoing problem.
