20 new Corrections Officers for Tanumalala Prison

Apia, Samoa – 02 November 2023: The Tanumalala Prison has 20 more new Corrections Officers who graduated after completing a 12 week Police Basic Recruits Course which covered both physical and theoretical training.

Reverend Dr. Alesana Palaamo led the prayer service and issued words of encouragement for the new recruits at their graduation at the Samoa Police & Prison Corrections Service (SPPC) yesterday.

Police Commissioner Auapaau Logoitino Filipo congratulated the graduates and acknowledged their calling, dedication and hard work and sacrifices to answer their call of duty.

He also acknowledged the graduates’ families for their support knowing that their service to the country will not come easy.

He also reminded them of the importance of upholding human rights and treating every individual with fairness and respect regardless of their past and that they carry the hopes and dreams of their families, friends, and communities.

“Every person, regardless of their actions, is entitled to rights as guaranteed under the Constitution of Samoa,” the Commissioner said.

He urged the new officers to embrace their responsibilities with integrity and professionalism, serving as beacons of justice in the community they swore to protect.

District Court Judge Alalatoa Rosella Viane Papalii was the guest of honour and presented the awards at the graduation.
