Police Unaware of a 13 year old Students Death

Apia, Samoa – 19 February 2024: The police have not been informed of the death of a 13 year old college student who slipped at school and later died at the Motootua Hospital last Friday.

The Deputy Police Commissioner Papalii Monalisa Tiai Keti was surprised when asked about the incident and immediately sent a team to the hospital to enquire.

She later reported that the doctor on duty at the time the deceased arrived at the hospital signed on the death documents without informing the police.

The normal procedure of sudden deaths outside of the hospital, the police are notified then await instructions from the coroner if a post mortem is needed or not.

Papalii said the police are following through the normal procedure.

The incident happened at the Wesley College, Faleula early Friday morning and according to reports, the Year 9 student slipped on the cement floor and later died at the hospital.
