Customs intercepts 214 grams of marijuana in latest narcotics bust
Apia, 31 January 2025 – The Ministry of Customs and Revenue has intercepted another illicit drug shipment just a few days after the biggest drug bust at the Apia wharf.
The suspicious package arrived through the Samoa Post in Apia and was flagged for further inspection. Upon thorough examination, the package was found to contain 214 grams of marijuana.
The Ministry of Customs says the intercepted package has been handed over to the Ministry of Police, Prison and Corrections Service for further investigation and legal proceedings.
It has been positive news for the Ministry with two drug seizures during the week of celebrating International Customs Day 2025 that highlights Customs ongoing efforts to protect the nation’s borders.
Chief Executive Officer Fonoti Talaitupu Li’a-Taefu, reaffirmed Customs commitment to combating illicit importation, stating, “The drug busts this week highlights our ongoing dedication to protecting Samoa from the dangers of illegal substances. We remain vigilant and will continue to strengthen our border control measures in collaboration with local and international enforcement partners.”
The Ministry says the drug seizures highlight the effectiveness of Samoa Customs enhanced enforcement measures and advanced detection capabilities, including the use of X-ray scanning technology and intelligence-driven risk assessment.
