More police suspended as illegal drugs related investigations continue

Apia, SAMOA – 27 February 2026: Two more police officers have been suspended while investigations continue on the allegations of their involvement in the illegal drugs trade in Samoa.
Prime Minister Laaulialemalietoa Leuatea polataivao Schmidt has confirmed the officers phone numbers have possible links with those charged in police drug raids where close to 200 people are in police custody awaiting their appearance in court.
This indicates that the officers have had communication with the accused, said Laauli.
He also confirmed that he has yet to receive a report on the first investigation involving Inspector Nanai Vani Vai and Luani who are accused of leaking information where a police drug raid was allegedly compromised.
