Apia, SAMOA – 28 February 2026: The official results of Vaisigano 2 and Safata 1 by-elections have given further validation to the ruling Faatuatua I le Atua Samoa ua Tasi government now holding 32 seats of the 51-seat parliament.

Motuopua’a Henney Henry Papalii won by a landslide in Vaisigano 2 winning 739 votes against former Cabinet Minister and HRPP candidate Valasi Luapitofanua Tafito Selsele.

For Safata 1, FAST female candidate Tunumafono Clare Tai Tin slipped in by two votes ahead of another FAST female candidate Tafafuna’i Saolotoga Fuimaono Mimio with 553 votes and the third FAST candidate Tafafuna’i Aialii Anapu with 364 votes.

HRPP candidate Luailepou Tikilapilesa Misi came fourth with 266 votes and the fourth FAST candidate polling 118 votes.

The Vaisigano 2 by election was called when Motuapuaa resigned as an Independent candidate last month after the district asked him to join the ruling FAST party.

The Safata 1 constituency was called after their Member of Parliament Seve Tei Fuimaono was found guilty of corrupt practises during last year’s election.

See the results as declared by the Electoral Commissioner below and now awaits the writ from the Head of State.
