Apia, SAMOA – 19 June 2026 – The Australian Defense Force (ADF) has generously donated cricket equipment and sportswear to help Samoa’s cricket teams.

The donation aims to support the growth of cricket in Samoa, especially for teams that lack proper gear and resources.

Chief Executive officer of the Samoa International Cricket Association, Sala Stella Siale Vaea, said they plan to distribute the sports gear to different teams around the country.

She said most of the local clubs often visit the Samoa International Cricket Association’s office looking for team uniforms and equipment.

Sala acknowledged that this contribution is very important because there are no sports stores in Samoa where players can buy equipment easily.

She emphasized that having the right equipment is crucial in a sport like cricket for players to train properly and stay disciplined.

“Many players in Samoa’s cricket team are school dropouts, which makes training and discipline more difficult,” she said.

One of Samoa’s biggest successes is the Under-19 Women’s cricket team that recently qualified to compete on the global stage after winning all their matches in the East Asia-Pacific (EAP) qualifiers.

Their undefeated run secured their spot in the International Cricket Council (ICC) Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup.

This achievement shows that Samoa is becoming a strong force in Pacific cricket and highlights the potential of its young players.

The Samoa International Cricket Association and players are grateful to the Australian Defense Force for their generous support.

The uniforms and equipment are estimated to be worth around $50,000.
