Apia, SAMOA – 10 March 2026: The Member of Parliament (MP) for Vaimauga 3, Taioaliiseu Fiti Aimaasu has revealed the reason why he left HRPP and sought his district’s views on his decision to resign from Parliament.

Taioaliiseu told the media after resigning from Parliament this morning that the main reason he left HRPP was because he did not want to sign a party letter against the $1 million District Development Project.

He explained that he was also asked by the party he supported in last year’s general election, to step down as a Co-Chair for the project.

Taioaliiseu said he was not going to sign away a project that benefits his district and he gave priority to the district.

He said the decision to leave HRPP was not easy, but he was not happy with such a decision hence his decision to stand for the district.

“My district comes first.”
He noted that the district project has and is benefiting people of his district and he was not going to forfeit the opportunity for people to develop.

He also realised that the district has huge support for the FAST Government and the project, but when pressured to step down as Co-Chair, that’s when he sought the districts views.

He said he consulted his constituents widely, including the youth, women, matais and his family that formed his decision to leave HRPP, resign from Parliament and return to the voters.

He said after weeks of praying and consultation which also include members of the FAST Party at his district, he finally made up his mind.

In Parliament today, he acknowledged the support of HRPP leader Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi.,

“My leaving HRPP was not pressured by any incentives or other reasons, but that of the district and I have given my district priority over anything else.”

Asked if he was ready for the by-election, he said he is and he will accept whatever the outcome and decision of his constituency.

FAST Party Leader and Prime Minister Laaulialemalietoa acknowledged the Members courage in taking a huge decision and offered the party’s support for the candidate in the upcoming by-election.
