US Deputy Secretary of State to visit Samoa

Apia, SAMOA – 25 February 2026: The United State Deputy Secretary of State, Christopher Landau is the second-highest official in Washington who will visit Samoa later this month.

Landau is already on his trip scheduled between 22 February and 2 March that will take him to three Pacific Islands including Fiji, Tonga and Samoa.

Landau is currently co-hosting the Pacific Agenda Investment, Security and Shared Prosperity Summit in Hawaii and is expected to meet with leaders and business executives from the Pacific Islands at the Summit.

One of the main focuses of the Summit is to encourage United States of America investment in the Pacific.

After the Summit, Landau will visit Tonga, Samoa and Fiji where he will hold talks with Government leaders in promoting commercial diplomacy strengthening U.S. partnerships with Pacific Island countries and territories and expanding collaboration in critical industries.

The expected high-level talks is expected to focus on commercial initiatives and reaffirms the strong and enduring ties between the United States and Pacific island nations through meetings with traditional leaders.

The last time a US Deputy Secretary of State, Wendy Sherman visited Samoa was in August 2022.
