Digital Media Hub Connects Farmers & Fishers in Knowledge-sharing & Innovation

Apia, SAMOA – 26 February 2026: In a significant move to modernize communications within the agriculture and fisheries sectors, Samoa’s Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries has launched the Digital Media Hub based at the TATTE Building in Apia.

The state-of-the-art facility aims to enhance community engagement, improve information dissemination, and support the sector’s development through advanced digital and audio-visual technologies.

The new Digital Media Hub is part of the government’s broader initiative to leverage digital innovation for more effective stakeholder engagement and public outreach.

The Hub is equipped with modern production tools, for the facility to produce timely, high-quality content on food, agriculture, and fisheries to keep farmers, fishers, and partners informed and connected.

In launching the Hub, the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Fuimaono Maiava Tito Asafo emphasized the importance of the initiative. “This Hub enhances our capacity to deliver timely, accurate agricultural and fisheries information, document results, and strengthen transparency across our programs,” he stated.

The project is supported by the European Union through the Sustainable Transformation of Domestic Agrifood Systems (STODAS) project and implemented with technical backing from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

The EU’s Ambassador to the Pacific, Barbara Plinkert highlighted the significance of the Hub, in aiding the agriculture sector, a key driver of Samoa’s economic growth, food security and livelihood.

“The European Union is proud to support the Samoa Digital Media Hub, which is more than a technical facility. It as a dynamic platform for knowledge-sharing, innovation, and connection.

“By strengthening the Ministry’s digital capacity, we are empowering farmers and agribusinesses with the information they need to innovate, grow and contribute to Samoa’s economy and sustainable development. The EU remains a reliable partner for Samoa and the Pacific region on connectivity, which is a key priority for the EU under our Global Gateway Strategy,” concluded the Ambassador.

The Hub is equipped with modern production tools, for the facility to produce timely, high-quality content on food, agriculture, and fisheries to keep farmers, fishers, and partners informed and connected.

FAO is the implementing partner of STODAS, and the initiative echoes FAO’s mission to ensure equitable access to nutritious food and vital information.

“We must also ensure that no one is left behind in accessing accurate, timely, and useful information about food, agriculture, and fisheries,” FAO’s representative, Guangzhou Qu.

While digital tools form the core of the Hub’s capabilities, the facility is designed to serve all communities, including remote and rural areas with limited internet access.

It will extend existing communication channels such as printed materials, radio, and television, ensuring vital information reaches even the most isolated communities.

The Australian Government’s Market Development Facility also provided complementary support, reinforcing the collaborative approach underpinning the project.

The initiative positions Samoa at the forefront of digital innovation in the Pacific, empowering farmers, fishers, and agribusinesses with the knowledge and tools needed to thrive in a modern economy.

As the country continues to pursue sustainable development, the Digital Media Hub stands as a vital step toward a more connected, informed, and resilient agricultural community.
